The Different Types of Shop Racking

Shop racking
When fitting out a store it's likely you'll need several different types of shop racking to provide a range of shelving options for the products you stock. If you're new to the retail industry, or are unsure about which kind of shop shelving you need, here's a handy guide to the main components you'll find at Shelving4Shops:

  • Wall shelving: a durable type of shelving that is fitted along a wall to provide standard display space for the majority of products. Available in a choice of heights, widths and depths, wall shelving can be customised with pegboard, magazine racking or extra shelves;
  • Gondola shelving: this type of shelving is double-sided and free-standing. By joining units together in a run you can create aisles in your store for easy browsing and extra display space. Available in a range of sizes, gondola shelving can be finished with end bays for a neat appearance;
  • Pegboard shelving: pegboard includes backing with numerous holes for hanging pegs or different types of shelving and accessories to display a diverse range of products. Pegboard backing can usually be fitted to wall shelving or gondola shelving;
  • Magazine racking: perfect for paper goods of all kinds, including magazines, newspapers, cards, stationery and wrapping paper;
  • Corner units and end bays: these units can be used to finish runs of wall shelving and gondola shelving to ensure that there is no wasted space in your store;
  • Wire shelving and dump bins: there are many types of wire shelving available, including wire stacking baskets and tall wire shelving units for use in window displays or warehouse storage. Dump bins are collapsible storage units to provide additional display space in your store, filling awkward corners or creating queuing areas by the tills. Idea for unusually-shaped products or end-of line items;
  • Shelving accessories: there are several accessories that can help to finish your store and make shelving more efficient, such as shelf risers and dividers, shopping baskets, extra shelves and epos ticket strips.

Magazine Shelving and Racking

 magazine shop shelving
Magazine shelving units are a versatile way to display paper goods, including cards, magazines, newspapers, stationery and even wrapping paper. Whether you're stocking extra cards in the run up to Christmas or expanding your stock to include other paper goods, magazine shelves are adaptable and durable, perfect for many different requirements.
These shelving racks can easily be connected to other shop shelving units like wall shelving to create bespoke runs. As you can see in the picture, the height of each shelf can be adjusted according to the type of products you have on display, and the large base shelf is ideal for stacking newspapers or housing boxed items.
Our magazine shelving units are available with a standard 470mm base shelf but this can be swapped for any size you need. Each unit has eight angled magazine shelf tiers and as with all our shelving units, additional shelves can be purchased and added if needed. Choose from three different heights to match your existing shelving: 1.8m, 2.1m or 2.4m.
If you're not sure how magazine shelving will work with your current shelving configuration, bring along a basic floor plan of your store to our shelving showroom and we'll help you to work out the best arrangement for your requirements! While you're there,  browse our huge range of shop shelving, shop racking, and shelving accessories to fit out your store with everything you need. Shop Counters for Sale from Shelving4Shops!

Did you know that as well as a huge range of shop shelving, we also stock shop counters and electronic tills at Shelving4Shops? We want to make it easy for shop owners to organise their store refit or refurbishment and find everything they need under one roof, so we offer a great range of shop fittings and accessories in addition to gondola shelving, wall shelving, peg board shelving and other styles of shelving!

shop counters and electronic tills

One of the most important aspects of designing a store is the position of your shop counter. Think about it: you need your counter to be placed so that you can welcome customers, view your store, move around your shop easily, create an efficient queuing space - not to mention choosing a counter that is large enough and durable enough to withstand the daily traffic in your store!

If you need help planning your store, get in touch with us at Shelving4Shops or visit us at our Leicestershire showroom and talk to one of our experts. We're happy to take the time to sit down with a cuppa and work through the best way to organise your store to make it efficient for your customers and staff, and cost-effective for your budget! Too often we've seen store owners concentrate on their shop shelving and completely forget about their shop counter, so it's essential to work your counter space into your initial plans rather than shoe-horning it in as an afterthought! Remember, it's where you're going to spend most of your time, so you need to make it a practical, comfortable, and efficient space.

shop shelving accessories

We can also advise you on our great range of shop shelving accessories, including electronic tills, shelf risers and dividers, Epos ticket strips, dump bins and shopping baskets. Visit us online or drop by our showroom in Wolvey near Leicester.

Why Buy Used Retail Shelving?

Used retail shelving can save you money and often provides all the benefits of new shelving with very few drawbacks. You can find a wide range of used and new shop shelving at Shelving4Shops, or request a specific type of shelving units and we'll do our best to source it for you!

used retail shelving

Used shop shelving and racking can be almost brand new, or years old - it is generally taken from stores that are undergoing a refit or closing down, so in most cases is in perfectly good condition and will remain usable and durable for many more years. Sometimes used shelving will have a little surface wear - knocks and scratches and marks etc - but these are almost always superficial and will not affect the use of the units. It's very easy to make used shelving look smart and new; a thorough clean, adding lining paper or bright Epos strips and your second hand unit will look fantastic. For used shelving that looks a bit more beaten up, why not use it in your warehouse or store room?

You may find, of course, that there is little difference between the price of brand new retail shelving and second hand shop shelving, so you may better off choosing new. One of the only drawbacks of used shelving is that you may not be able to find an exact match for existing units, or a particular brand. However, at Shelving4Shops we always do our best to source the best match possible for a cohesive and seamless look for your retail shelving.
